KMP leader on Euro trip to discuss agrarian reform bill
By Gerry Albert Corpuz
Manila, Philippines- Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) Secretary General Danilo Ramos is on a three-week European tour to discuss the necessity of legislating the progressive Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill (GARB) or House Bill 3059.
Ramos left the country on January 14 and will be back on Feb.9 for a 3-week speaking engagement in several countries in Europe, according to latest KMP news bulletin, a copy of which was obtained by The Pamalakaya times.
Ramos will embark on a series of discussion on HB 3059 to get the support of migrant Filipino workers and Filipino communities in Europe.
The bill is principally authored by the late Anakpawis party list Rep. Crispin Beltran and co-authored by Anakpawis party list Rep. Rafael Mariano, Bayan Muna party list Reps. Satur Ocampo and Teodoro Casiño and Gabriela party list reps. Liza Maza and Luzviminda Ilagan. If approved by Congress, the new agrarian law will pave way for the distribution of all agricultural lands to landless, land-lacking and willing-to-till farmers for free with guaranteed strong support systems to make these distributed lands more productive and more responsive to the needs of the Filipino public.
In a telephone interview, KMP information officer Roy Morilla said Ramos will visit fraternal groups and networks in Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.
“This is part of the long struggle and journey to class emancipation. Ka Daning (comrade Daning) will carry the class interest of the peasant and will banner the people’s clamor for land and justice,” Morilla said.
Ramos will also generate political support for the immediate release of KMP deputy secretary general Randall Echanis, currently detained in Manila City Jail for trumped-up charges. (with a report from APC secretariat)
