GMA allies in Pampanga told: “Time to desert Arroyos or vanish

The left-leaning fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Friday warned allies of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that they could be facing public wrath and electoral backlash in 2010 if they will support her alleged plan to run for Congress and her son- Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo’s bid for governorship next year.

“Pampanga politicians are digging their own graves by subscribing to the immoral plan of President Arroyo and Rep. Arroyo to stay in the corridors of power and prostitute the local politics in Pampanga in the name of political immunity and survival,” Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap said in press statement.

“The Arroyos are planning to put their own political dynasty in Pampanga and they are slowly but surely doing it by fielding the members of the clan in various elective positions. Rep. Arroyo is running for governor, and Mrs. Arroyo is running for 2nd district of the province. What’s next? The First Gentleman to run for 1st district of Pampanga, and another Arroyo in the 3rd district of Pampanga? This is not a remote possibility given the Arroyos’ obsession to power,” added Hicap.

The militant leader said allies of President Arroyo in the province namely Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzalez (Pampanga, 3rd district), San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and Pampanga Vice-Governor Joseller Guiao should instead oppose Mrs. Arroyo’s plan to gain a congressional seat in the House of Representatives and as well as frustrate Rep. Arroyo’s plan to run for governor in 2010 rather than endorse these developments as welcome news for the people of Pampanga.

“It is time to desert Mrs. Arroyo and drop her like a hot potato. The politicians of Pampanga should stop prostituting the political sentiment and collective interest of the Kapampangans by giving full premium to President Arroyo’s sinister agenda and cruel intention in 2010. All of the pro-Arroyo politicians will banish once the Arroyos decided to replace them in their current elective posts” the Pamalakaya leader warned.

Hicap also asked provincemates of President Arroyo to frustrate her alleged plan to run for congress in 2010 two days after agrarian reform secretary Nasser Pangandaman confirmed that the President will seek a congressional seat to represent her home province of Pampanga.

“We strongly appeal to the people of Pampanga to rise above the occasion and frustrate this sinister agenda and cruel intention of Mrs. Arroyo. We are very optimistic the Kapampangans will not allow themselves to be used by President Arroyo for her political survival and daring escape from justice and accountability via the 2010 polls,” he said

“From the provincial down the barangay levels, the decent and rational thinking Cabalens will lead the crusaders of politics of change, patriotism and good governance to rally the people against Mrs. Arroyo’s gameplan to perpetual immunity and immoral stay in power,” the Pamalakaya leader added.

Hicap said Arroyo’s stint to run in Congress and later seeks the premiership or even the speakership of the House of Representatives must be frustrated and it’s the historical mission of the Filipino people in general and the people of Pampanga in particular.

“ In 2010, the Filipino people will attend the premier night of Mrs. Arroyo’s trial for crimes against the people and we would thank the Kapampangans for their decisive role in sending Mrs. Arroyo to trial ,” he said.

At the sidelines of the Independence Day celebrations in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Pangandaman told reporters that “definitely, President Arroyo is running for Congress and would represent the people of Pampanga. The agrarian reform chief said Arroyo had always told those close to her about her plans to run represent Pampanga in the House of Representatives. He said Arroyo’s plan to run for Congress should allay the fears of the opposition about the no-election scenario.

Pangandaman said the President had nothing to do with the plan of her allies in the House to convene a constituent assembly to amend the Constitution. He said the President herself was not in favor of Charter change under her administration.

“She said it could come later. Let the people decide after the elections,” Pangandaman said. Pangandaman said recent surveys which showed her approval ratings on the decline did not dampen the President’s resolve to run for Congress. “The President gives little attention to surveys as she continues to urge her official family to hasten the completion of Malacañang’s priority projects on infrastructure, education, health, agriculture and other social services,” the DAR chief said.

But Pamalakaya said Pangandaman’s announcement on Arroyo’s plans to run for Congress to represent the province of Pampanga does not negate either another Palace statement saying that President Arroyo will step down in 2010.

“She may leave the presidency, but she will not leave the corridors of power. Mrs. Arroyo is gunning for a congressional seat in 2010 and will train her sights on the premiership of the country if Charter Change succeeds or the speakership of the House of Representatives to perpetuate herself to power and stop her millennium trial for political crimes and high crimes of corruption,” the group said.

“The Filipino people will demand the new presidency the immediate filing of criminal and other appropriate charges not only against President Arroyo but as well as other government and military officials accused of various crimes including but not limited to corruption, election fraud and political killings,” Pamalakaya said. #
