Militants to Noynoy: We don’t need another hero, just prove your for change
Leftwing activists belonging to Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Wednesday told Liberal Party presidential bet Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III that the country does not need another hero and all the people want him to do is to prove to the public that is he is the man for long-desired reforms and change in the country.
“We don’t rely on political bandwagon whether there is truth to it or it was just created for political consumption and public image building. This country does not need another hero or messiah. What we want to hear from him is his program of action on reforms and change,” said Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap in a press statement.
The Pamalakaya leader admitted that he was irritated by Sen.Aquino’s statement that the Filipino people want change because 50 percent of the voters in Luzon island wanted him to succeed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo according to the September 5 and 6 survey conducted by Social Weather Station (SWS).
“Noynoy’s statement is full of political arrogance, self-assuming and totally misleading. He is acting as if he is the messiah. He should issue a public apology and better practice humility and extra prudence,” added Hicap.
The survey covered 1,200 respondents in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Central Luzon and Calabarzon area- that is home to 40 percent of the country’s registered voters- and had a margin of error of 3 percent points.
In said survey, Senator Manuel Villar came a far second with 14 percent, while former President Joseph Estrada checked in third with 13 percent.
Pamalakaya’s Hicap said his group was not satisfied with the response of Sen.Aquino on the issue of Hacienda Luisita, adding that the LP presidential candidate is not really committed to distribute the 6,453 hectare sugar estate to the farmworkers and other agrarian reform beneficiaries.
Sen.Aquino when asked about the 50 percent rating he obtained in the recent SWS survey said: “This proves that the people want change.”
Pamalakaya advised Sen.Aquino to be more specific and concrete when talking about reforms and changes in the government. The militant group said the son of the late former President Corazon Aquino is merely engaged in polemics and rhetorics and has yet to concretize what reforms and changes he intends to implement if he wins the presidency in 2010 elections.
“For the information of Sen.Aquino, what the people want are genuine reforms and changes in the rotten political and economic system. Can he be more specific and concrete. We don’t want to engage in endless guessing game, so he should be more specific here,” the militant group said. #
