Noynoy as cover of Time Magazine, no big deal—Luisita farmworkers

By Sarah Ann Ago and Bb. Joyce Cabral

MANILA, Philippines- While Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Sen. Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III is in cloud nine having been featured as cover of the latest edition of TIME Magazine, farm workers in the 6,453-hectare sugar estate Hacienda Luisita did not give premium to what they called an empty and cheap publicity stunt for the 50-year old presidential wannabe.

“Frankly speaking, this latest escapade of Noynoy appearing as poster boy or pin up boy of Time Magazine is no big deal as far as Hacienda Luisita farmworkers is concerned. All we want is Hacienda Luisita and justice to all victims of Hacienda Luisita massacre six years ago and not copies of Time Magazine. We don’t have the capacity to buy copies of Time Magazines and even if we have some money we would buy food instead of purchasing copies of Time Magazine and view the poker face of this feudal aristocrat. What we want is our land,” said Lito Bais, survivor of the 2004 massacre and acting president of the United Luisita Workers Union (ULWU) an affiliate of Unyon ng Mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA).

The LP standard bearer on Sunday said he was touched by Time Magazine’s decision to put him on the cover of its April 26 issue, adding that the article written about him had challenged to improve the country’s impoverished situation and resolutely fight graft and corruption in the country.

Bais, however, suggested to editors and local correspondents of Time Magazine to cover the 5-day long march of 500 Hacienda Luisita farmworkers which will start from Hacienda Luisita to Manila so they could have a clear picture of Aquino presidency in case the son of former President Corazon Aquino wins the presidential derby on May 10, 2010. The march, which is the second long march for this year regarding Hacienda Luisita, will cover main thoroughfares of Tarlac, San Fernando and Bulacan provinces on their way to the National Capital Region (NCR).

“It is time for Time Magazine to go deeper about the checkered records of Noynoy and his family and their unholy alliance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that resulted to the full-blown denial of Hacienda Luisita to farm workers, the massacre of sugar workers and the injury of hundreds of their colleagues and supporters,” Bais stressed.

The activity dubbed Lakbayan ng Anakpawis Para sa Lupa at Katarungan (March of the Toiling Masses for Land and Justice) will be co-organized by Alyansa ng mga Manggagawang Bukid sa Asyenda Luisita (Ambala), UMA, Alyansa ng Mga Manggagawang Bukid ng Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), Amihan peasant women federation, Anakpawis party list and the activist fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya).

Meanwhile, the 28 national council leaders of the 100,000 strong Pamalakaya fisherfolk alliance today signed a political manifesto calling for the rejection of Aquino presidential bid in May 2010 polls.

“For us Senator Aquino is the female version of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He is a ruthless person passing himself off as a liberal politician and anti-graft crusader. He is anti-GMA reactionary but just the same he and his cabal of own gangsters are certified opportunists,” the group’s manifesto said. .

“Mr. Aquino has this very, very strong tendency to become a full-blown political monster and dictator among the 9 presidential wannabes seeking the highest elective post in the country today,” Pamalakaya chair Fernando Hicap said.

Pamalakaya, a staunch ally of striking farmworkers of Hacienda Luisita said the bloody crimes of LP presidential bet and his landed family in connection with the continuing denial of land rights and injustice committed against Hacienda Luisita agricultural workers are non-negotiable and unpardonable.

“There will be not let up. We will squarely face this ambitious presidential animal and Rated -A opportunist politician even if he becomes the next President. There would be no political honeymoon and every day would be a day of exposition and opposition because Noynoy is Mrs. Arroyo trapped in a man’s body,” the militant group said.

“As far as we are concerned, Noynoy decided to run for President not to fight corruption in the government but to engage in bigger crimes of corruption, and one these crimes is to maintain their unlawful and immoral claim on Hacienda Luisita,” Pamalakaya said.

Pamalakaya noticed the people in Noynoy’s camp were the same people who worked with her mother the late President Corazon Aquino at the time the Aquino administration was setting the stage to place Hacienda Luisita under the controversial Stock Distribution Option (SDO).

“If our memory serves us right, Franklin Drilon was Aquino’s justice secretary and one time her labor secretary, and Mr. Butch Abad was her mother’s agrarian reform secretary. They were instrumental in keeping Hacienda Luisita in the “divine hands” of the Aquino feudal aristocracy. Now the same guys are with him and they are all in one party. Coincidence? We don’t think so and we believe they are really up for something big and extremely cruel,” the militant group said.

Drilon is seeking to comeback in the Senate as one of the candidates of LP, while Abad is part of the campaign machinery of LP standard bearer. Pamalakaya said those working and associated with Noynoy are the same people who flirted with and enjoyed juicy government positions during the first three to four years of the Macapagal-Arroyo administration.

“Majority of those in the Noynoy camp played beautiful music and even performed their roles to the hilt as cabinet members cum apologists of Mrs. Arroyo until they realized that their respective political careers and interests would go to disaster if they remain with the gangster group in Malacanang. They are all opportunists and their basis of unity is not to pursue politics of change but to share power among themselves in case Arroyo is bolted out from power,” the fishers’ alliance added.#

Time mag’s poster boy assailed for pol accommodation

By Gerry Albert Corpuz and Sarah Ann Go

MANILA, Philippines-Time Magazine latest cover Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino, the presidential candidate of Liberal Party (LP) in the May 10, 2010 Philippine elections is accused by a left-leaning fisherfolk alliance of buying one of his opponents to withdraw from the presidential race in exchange for a government position.

Rabid critics of Liberal Party (LP)standard bearer Sen. Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III on Saturday accused Noynoy’s camp of directly engaging in pre-election political accommodation and bribery following LP’s offer to administration bet Gilbert Teodoro to back out from the presidential race and support Aquino’s bid in exchange for a Cabinet post.

“This is political arrogance, political accommodation and political bribery rolled into one. Is this the kind of presidency Mr.Aquino has to offer to 92 million Filipinos? God of history please save this country from Noynoy,” the militant fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said in a press statement.

“The Time Magazine latest pin up boy for April 26, 2010 is dangling positions and huicy posts to his rivals in exchange for their withdrawals in the hotly contested race. This one really shocked the world, not the transfer of aging or has-been stalwarts to his camp,” the highly vocal Pamalakaya added.

Misamis Occidental Gov. Loreto Leo Ocampos, the chair of the League of Provinces of the Philippines who joined the Aquino camp weeks ago, had made the offer while appearing at the ANC “Strictly Politics” TV program on Tuesday night.

But LP vice-presidential candidate, Sen. Manuel Roxas, denied that the party had offered Teodoro a Cabinet post in an Aquino presidency. “I have had no discussions with Secretary Teodoro whom I respect. But we have not made any offer to him because we do not want to be presumptuous. Our priority is to ensure the victory of Noynoy as president,” Roxas said.

According to news reports, LP leaders have made the offer to Teodoro after two of the ruling coalition’s big guns, Albay Rep. Joey Salceda and Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali Gonzales III, crossed to their camp. But Teodoro’s spokesman Atty. Mike Toledo downplayed the said offer to Teodoro.

“Only in their dreams,” said Toledo, adding that with the presidential campaign having degenerated into “taunting and disinformation,” the 45-year-old Teodoro is more convinced than ever that Filipinos deserved better.

“He’s convinced that Filipinos deserve a new brand of politics, a principled and issue-driven politics, and that can only be achieved under a Teodoro administration,” he said.

“Noynoy, Mar and the rest of the Aquino-Roxas camp are all in the state of denial. Their spin doctors are doing the dirty the jobs at the grass roots level both aboveboard and clandestine, while the camp’s principals and other supporting players are performing the laundry jobs just in case these dirty operations take a major boomerang on the Aquino-Roxas mafia,” said Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap.

The 28 national council leaders of the 80,000 strong fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) are set to sign an organizational memorandum calling its 43 regional and provincial chapters all over the country to reject the presidential bid of Aquino.

“For us Senator Aquino is the female version of President Gloria Macapagal-ArroyoGloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He is a ruthless person passing himself off as a liberal politician and anti-graft crusader. He is anti-GMA reactionary but just the same he and his cabal of own gangsters are certified opportunists,” the group added.

“Mr. Aquino has this very, very strong tendency to become a full-blown political monster and dictator among the 9 presidential wannabes seeking the highest elective post in the country today,” said Pamalakaya vice-chairperson Salvador France in a separate statement.

The fisherfolk alliance is set to conduct its’ yearly national council meeting on April 19-20 in Quezon City. Pamalakaya, the biggest fisherfolk organization in the country will formalize its endorsement of Anakpawis party list and Makabayan senatorial candidates Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza –former party list representatives of Bayan Muna and Gabriela Women’s Party respectively now running as official candidates of Nacionalista Party (NP) and Makabayan coalition.

Pamalakaya agreed with the observation raised by Jose Maria Sison, founding chair of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) that if Aquino becomes the President, he and the Cojuangco-Aquino clan will use state power to frustrate and suppress the rights of farmworkers in Hacienda Luisita to keep the 6,453-hectare sugar estate under the continuing control of his family.

“As far as we are concerned, Noynoy decided to run for President not to fight corruption in the government but to engage in bigger crimes of corruption, and one these crimes is to maintain their unlawful and immoral claim on Hacienda Luisita,” the militant group said.

Pamalakaya noticed the people in Noynoy’s camp were the same people who worked with her mother the late President Corazon AquinoCorazon Aquino at the time the Aquino administration was setting the stage to place Hacienda Luisita under the controversial Stock Distribution Option (SDO).

“If our memory serves us right, Franklin Drilon was Aquino’s justice secretary and one time her labor secretary, and Mr. Butch Abad was her mother’s agrarian reform secretary. They were instrumental in keeping Hacienda Luisita in the divine hands of the Arroyo feudal aristocracy.

They are all a bunch of opportunists and their basis of unity is not to pursue politics of change but to share power among themselves in case Arroyo is bolted out from power,” the fishers’ alliance added.

Meanwhile, some 500 farm workers of Hacienda Luisita will stage a 5-day long march from Tarlac to Manila on April 19-23 to demand the immediate and unconditional free distribution of 6,453 hectare sugar estate to 10,000 farm worker beneficiaries.

Dubbed Lakbayan ng Anakpawis Para sa Lupa at Katarungan (March of the Toiling Masses for Land and Justice) the long march will be spearheaded by Unyon ng Mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA), the Luisita based United Luisita Workers Union (ULWU) and Alyansa ng Mga Manggagawang Bukid ng Luisita (Ambala), Alyansa ng Mga Magbubukid ng Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and Anakpawis party list.

Anakpawis party list secretary general Cherry Clemente said Luisita farmworkers will also demand the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Presidential Agrarian Reform Council (PARC) to immediately ask the Supreme Court to cite the Luisita management in contempt of court following what she called established machinations of the Cojuangco-Aquino family in Hacienda Luisita despite a standing order from the high court effectively stopping the management from pursuing any kind of development inside Luisita while the temporary restraining order is still in effect and the land dispute is still being resolved by the high tribunal.

Fisherfolk leaders to sign pact junking Noynoy’s presidential bid in 2010

Ex-Chief Justice told: Don’t give us false hopes with Noynoy presidency

By Gerry Albert Corpuz and Queen Shawn Dok

MANILA, Philippines-Critics of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III belonging to the fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) criticized former Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.for giving the public the impression that a Noynoy presidency in June 30, 2010 would provide the change desired by millions of Filipino people.

In a press statement, Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap said the former Chief Justice was a staunch ally of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo since the beginning of the Arroyo presidency in 2001 up to March 2010, and the “unholy link up” was disconnected after Davide decided to quit the latest juicy post given to him by Arroyo and campaigned for his son Hilario Davide III who is running as governor of Cebu province.

“Former Chief Justice Davide is an opportunist politician. Remember, he played and flirted with the corrupt administration of Mrs. Arroyo, played the games of the generals and the extrajudicial killing republic and supported the President’s unlawful and immoral rule for 9 years. Now is talking of a different thing,” said Hicap referring to the statement of Davide that the public can never forget the corruption in the present administration and the only way to have real change is to bring Noynoy and his vice presidential partner Sen. Mar Roxas to Malacanang.

“How sure Mr. Davide that Noynoy and Mar are clean and that they will not become corrupt politicians and despotic rulers? This aging, has-been and opportunist ex-Chief Justice of the high tribunal is fooling the public to the highest order,” the Pamalakaya leader added.

Davide, the country’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations until last month resigned from his post so that he could campaign for his son Hilario Davide III running for governor of Cebu and so he could focus with his advocacy for “change.”

He said his home province of Cebu might even give Aquino more votes than what it delivered to President Macapagal-Arroyo in the 2004 elections.

Davide, who was wearing a Liberal Party campaign shirt, said he was actively campaigning for Aquino and Roxas because “this is the best time for our country really to have real change.” The former Chief Justice stressed that change can only be accomplished through the leadership of Noynoy and Mar … That is exactly the reason why I had to tender my resignation as the Philippines’ ambassador and permanent representative to the UN effective April 1,” Davide added.

But Pamalakaya, a staunch ally of striking farm workers in Hacienda Luisita said its 28 national council leaders representing 43 provincial chapters all over the country will sign an organizational memo during its April 19-21 meeting in Manila.

The memorandum directs all the group’s chapters in the country to reject the presidential bid of Aquino because the Cojuangc-Aquino’s bloody crimes and wholesale denial of peasant land rights in connection with the 6,453-hectare Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac.

“Rejection becomes Noynoy. Nothing more, nothing less”,” the group added.

Pamalakaya has 80,000 members and supporters all over the country and is identified with Anakpawis party list. At present, the group had already endorsed the senatorial bids of Rep. Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna and Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela. #

Presidentiables told: Be ready for people power vs. GMA hold over presidency

By Gerry Albert Corpuz, Bb. Joyce Cabral and Billy Javier Reyes

MANILA, Philippines-The militant fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) urged on Saturday all presidential candidates to sign a covenant calling for the staging of another People Power in case the Macapagal-Arroyo administration declares failure of elections or installs a hold over presidency through a coup instigated by pro-Arroyo faction in the military.

In a press statement, Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap asked Nacionalista Party (NP) standard bearer Manny Villar, Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III,Lakas-Kampi merger party Gilbert Teodoro, Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino bet former President Joseph Bagumbayan candidate Sen. Richard Gordon, Bangon Pilipinas’s Bro. Eddie Villanueva and independent candidates Sen. Jamby Madrigal, JC de los Reyes of Ang Kapatiran Party and Nicanor Perlas to declare their readiness for another people power and commit to mobilize their political forces and members to frustrtate Arroyo’s hold over presidency in whatever form.

“Are they willing to join the people for another People Power? According to the latest survey of the Social Weather Station, 48 percent of the 92 million Filipinos are likely to join any call for popular uprising that will frustrate President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s sinister plot to perpetuate herself to power,” the fisherfolk leader said.

Likewise the same challenged was posed by Hicap to vice-presidential candidates Sen. Mar Roxas of the Liberal Party, Sen. Loren Legarda of Nacionalista Party, Bayani Fernando of Bagumbayan, Edu Manzano of Lakas-Kampi merger party, Jejomar Binay of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino and Perfecto Yasay of Bangon Pilipinas.

The Pamalakaya leader asserted the possibility of another People Power revolution in the Philippines is not a remote scenario according to political experts closely following the turn of political events unfolding two months before the May 2010 elections that include the Supreme Court decision allowing Mrs. Arroyo to appoint the next Chief Justice two months before the elections and the designation of Gen. Delfin Bangit as the new chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“If that is the case, then the 92 million Filipinos have no options but to take the streets for the third time around and stage another popular people uprising to frustrate President Arroyo’s attempt to perpetuate herself to power as a hold over president or chief of an installed civilian-military junta dominated by military generals loyal or associated with the party of Arroyo,” said Hicap.

Pamalakaya said the outrage expressed by political activists, lawyers, professionals and politicians opposed to the Supreme Court decision granting President Arroyo the power to appoint the next Chief Justice despite the constitutional prohibition and their opposition against the appointment of Bangit as new AFP chief is an indication that Filipinos are ready to go to the main capital for another People Power to effectively stop the ruling gangland in Malacanang from extending their terms beyond June 30, 2010.

Pamalakaya described the SC ruling as a major legal disaster and the appointment of Bangit and other rabid pro-Arroyo officials in various positions in the government highly revolting.

Pamalakaya advised President Arroyo to refrain from complicating things and instead do the most lawful, sensible and objective action that suits to the national interest and collective will of the people. It said the trouble with President Arroyo is her super obsession to stay in power beyond June 30, 2010 and the President is hell bent in appointing a Chief Justice that will follow the doctrine of Malacanang.#

Noynoy told: You can’t really sell Hacienda Luisita, it is not yours

By Gerry Albert Corpuz and Billy Javier Reyes

MANILA, Philippines-One of the groups supporting the fight of Hacienda Luisita workers expressed outrage on Tuesday over a controversial statement of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III that the family could have gained P 3.B in net profits from selling the large sugar plantation if his family did not care about the farmers and only care for their interests.

In a press statement, the leftwing fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said the Cojuangco-Aquino family has no right to claim ownership over the 6,453 hectare sugar plantation, and therefore has no right to dispose it to high bidders ad preferred clients of the Cojuangcos interested in acquiring the disputed land.

Aquino said the 4,500-hectare plantation could have been sold at P4.5 billion, with the real estate price of P100 per square meter. He said if his family decided to sell Hacienda Luisita, seventy percent of the proceeds will go the Cojuangco family or roughly P 3.15 billion, after payment of the company’s debts, adding at there would still be a big enough amount left in the family bank accounts.

“Noynoy and the landed aristocrats and oligarchs of the Cojuangco-Aquino landed mafia have no right to claim ownership over Hacienda Luisita. They should stop representing themselves as owners and benign proprietors of the 6,453-hectare sugar plantation. Hacienda Luisita belongs to generations of hardworking farm workers who were deprived of their rights to land by the passed on landed matriarchs and patriarchs of the exploiting Cojuangco clan,” Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap said.

Hicap accused Sen. Aquino of misleading the Filipino public by trying to picture them as enlightened landlords in the countryside. “This presidential wannabe is a certified liar and a first-rate harbinger of lies and illusions. The farmers all over the country should reject this traditional politician and sugar-coated warlord in Central Luzon,” he said. According to Hicap, the Cojuangco-Aquino family acquired Hacienda Luisita through an endless campaign of coercion and deception on farm workers.

The Pamalakaya official said Noynoy should face the issues surrounding Hacienda Luisita fair and square and refrain from issuing statements that misrepresent or distort the real score in the 6,453-hectare sugar plantation that covers towns of Tarlac province.

Hicap stressed Hacienda Luisita should had been distributed to farmer beneficiaries in 1967 as part of the agreement between the Philippine government and the Cojuangco family in exchange for the P 7 million loan the family of former President Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino obtained from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), aside from the 10-year loan acquired by the Cojuangcos from Manufacturer’s Trust Company in New York which was permitted by the Central Bank of the Philippines.

The loan obtained from New York and the GSIS loan were used by the Cojuangcos to buy the Hacienda Luisita from its former Spanish owners on the condition that the sugar estate will be awarded to farm workers in 1967 in pursuit of agrarian reform and social justice.

“Where is Noynoy’s sense of history and justice? He and his family are distorting everything to keep their unlawful and immoral control of Hacienda Luisita. Please do not vote for this political shenanigan in 2010. He poses extreme danger to the people,” added Hicap.

The Pamalakaya leader said Senator Aquino and other members of the Cojuangco-Aquino family should be declared illegal occupants and bogus owners of Hacienda Luisita. “In fact Aquino and Cojuangco clan should be charged of grave fraud and exploitation for transforming Hacienda Luisita farmworkers into long-time and long-running serfs over the last four decades. That is undeniably crime against humanity,” said Hicap.

Pamalakaya said the free distribution of 6,453 hectare Hacienda Luisita to 10,000 farm workers faces zero possibility in case Aquino wins the presidency in 2010. “Aquino and the Cojuangco clan will not relinquish their illegal and immoral control of Luisita. Noynoy will even use the presidency just like what his mother did to stop the farm workers from acquiring Luisita. It is all in the feudal mindset of the Cojuangcos and the rate things are going, even Noynoy sisters will cooperate to ensure gross denials of peasant land rights for another four to five decades or even a century more,” the group added.

Groups urge Luisita workers to declare Dinky persona non grata

By Jayjay Jaiho and Chocolate Moose Fernandez

Manila, Philippines-Three militant groups supporting the striking farmworkers of Hacienda Luisita on Sunday urged farmworkers of the 6,453-hectare sugar estate owned by the family of the late President Corazon Aquino to declare persona non-grata former Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman.

In a joint press statement, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), the Hacienda Luisita based Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA) and the left-leaning fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said Soliman did not only distort the truth about the infamous Hacienda Luisita massacre, she also prostituted history with her own fabricated facts and figures.

“She’s the no.1 political prostitute in the camp of Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III. She will move heaven and earth for the sake of a Noynoy presidency in 2010. This is unpardonable and totally revolting,” said Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap.

“The struggling workers of Hacienda Luisita has no option but condemn this opportunist Noynoy puppet and tell her she is not welcome in Luisita as far as the farmworkers are concerned,” the Pamalakaya official added.

Soliman said the number of striking workers in Cojuangco-owned sugar estate five years ago were only 2 and not 7 as reported by media. The former social welfare chief the reports regarding the massacre were exaggerated, asserting that she only saw two bodies and did not see the other five dead bodies which media claimed as casualties in the Nov.16, 2004 carnage.

‘How can that be? Is she talking of another massacre perpetrated by her former boss –President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo? Where is her sense of truth, of accuracy and objectivity? She is lying, that’s the real score, she is lying to pursue this politically motivated gossip making against the memories of the martyrs in Hacienda Luisita massacre,” added Hicap.

Likewise Pamalakaya blasted the sister of Aquino—Viel Aquino-Dee for insisting that her family should not be blamed for the killings and that infiltrators from the leftist groups should be take the blame.

“She is a triple platinum liar. She can check the reports of the Senate Committee which investigated the case and the voluminous media reports that point to the military, their previous allies in Malacanang as perpetrators of the massacre, and after that let us see who is telling the truth, and who is lying, nothing more, nothing less,” the group added.

Pamalakaya, UMA and KMP last month 21 asked Senate President Juan Ponce- Enrile to re-open the investigation on the Hacienda Luisita massacre case.

“Will the Senate leadership under the Enrile presidency find time to re-open the long-running story of Hacienda Luisita massacre and the controversial SDO in the name of farmers’ right to land and social justice? Is there a guarantee from Enrile that he will re-open the still unresolved cases and issues surrounding the sugar estate of the Cojuangco-Aquino family upon the request of Luisita farm workers?” the groups said in their joint statement.

“It is about time to re-open the Hacienda Luisita case. It will be moral and politically upright to have this case closed ahead of the 2010 elections with the resolution of the Nov.16, 2004 massacre and the free distribution of lands to 8,000 farmer beneficiaries and the punishment of those involved in the Nov.16, 2004 Hacienda Luisita massacre,” the groups said. #
